Board Meeting Minutes

The Greens, Sparta

 

Members Present:  Jeff Waldera (Onalaska, guest), Ken Olson (Reedsburg), Mike Kunes, (Black River), Tim Flood (Onalaska), Oak Moser (Tomah), Timm Klemm (Baraboo), Vince Paduano (Viroqua), Tom Steele (Viroqua), Marvin Lehman (West Salem), Bob Pitel (LaCrescent, President), Ron Malcolm (Tomah), Fritz Degner (Sparta), Danielle Nauman (Sparta, Secretary), Dawn Bernamann (Sparta, Selects)

 

Meeting called to order by President Bob Pitel at 7:11PM.

 

I.                    Introductions

 

II.                 Secretary’s minutes:  Motion to accept by Tomah, second by Baraboo.  Approved by voice vote.

 

III.               Treasurer’s Report:  Mike was absent, but had forwarded the financials to Bob.  Motion to accept by West Salem, second by Tomah.  Approved by voice vote.

 

IV.              Committees

A.    League Statistician:  there is still no statistician on board, we need to     actively pursue finding one.

 

B.     Selects:  Further discussion was held regarding increasing participation.  It was decided to leave it up to the associations how they want to choose players, but give suggestions for different ways to do so.  It was also decided that in November, we will survey coaches regarding their intent to send players.  Then we will be able to see if we can garner more participation from those indicating that they do not chose to participate.

 

C.    WAHA Report:  No Report, however there are some questions regarding the new girls’ rules, which will have an impact on the structures and numbers of teams in the league.  Bob will contact Fran to clarify those rules.

 

V.                 Old Business

A.    Championship patches were distributed for last season

 

B.     Recruitment Rebates:  Mike made up a form for associations to submit to      receive their rebates.  It was noted that he set a deadline of November 30th for     submissions, in order to ensure that rebates are paid out on the current budget.  Motion to approve form by Tomah, second by West Salem.

 

 

C.    Divisions/Team Estimates for 2007-2008 season

1.      Teams without estimates:  Dells, LaCrosse, & Winona

2.      Division 1 Mites:  Baraboo, LaCrescent, Onalaska, Reedsburg, Tomah, Viroqua, West Salem

Total to date:  7 Division 1 Mites

3.      Division 2 Mites:  Black River, LaCrescent, Sparta, Tomah

      Total to date:  4 Division 2 Mites

4.      Division 1 Squirts:  Baraboo, LaCrescent, ?Onalaska, Reedsburg, 

?Tomah, Viroqua, West Salem

         Total to date:  5-7 Division 1 Squirts

5.      Division 2 Squirts:  Black River (2), LaCrescent, Sparta, ?Tomah, West Salem

                                                 Total to date:  5-6 Division 2 Squirts

6.      Division 1 PeeWees:  Baraboo, Black River, Reedsburg, Tomah,                  Viroqua, West Salem

  Total to date:  7 Division 1 PeeWees

7.      Division 2 PeeWees:  ?Black River, Onalaska, Sparta, ?Tomah,       West Salem

   Total to date:  3-5 Division 2 PeeWees

8.      Division 1 Bantams:  Baraboo, Tomah, Viroqua, West Salem

   Total to date:  4 Division 1 Bantams

9.      Division 2 Bantams:  BRF (may co-op with Tomah), Onalaska, Reedsburg, ?Tomah, West Salem (note Sparta will co-op with WS)

    Total to date:  4-5 Division 2 Bantams

 

D.      There will be a pre-scheduling meeting October 3 at the Greens in Sparta to firm up divisions and teams                       

1.      There is a camp in Sparta, flyers were handed out.

2.      Sparta’s skate-a-thon, flyers were handed out.

 

E.      Contact Information-please update, will wait for coaches and schedulers information

 

VI.              New Business

A.    Paying Statistician was discussed to increase likelihood of finding someone.  West Salem moved to pay a statistician $500 for the season.  It was noted that parameters will need to be set to ensure that the person chosen actually completes the job in an acceptable manner.  Jeff Waldera then mentioned that he’s noticed on the Dane County Youth Hockey website that Region 4 has offered to website statistics for all associations in the state.  He will check in to it to find out more information and cost.  The motion to pay a statistician $500 was tabled.  Meanwhile, we should be actively recruiting for one.

 

VII.            Announcements:  Onalaska passed out flyers for their 3 on 3 tournament held October 5-7.

 

Tomah moved to adjourn at 8:25, second by Baraboo. Meeting adjourned.
